When you are an animal owner, that animal is now a part of the family and just as important as any other member of the family. But when is the vet okay and when should your pet be taken to the hospital?
There are occasions when a visit to the regular veterinarian is okay, and other times when only a hospital facility is capable of handling the injury or ailment with your pet. It is imperative that your pet is taken to the vet on a regular basis to maintain his or her good health, but equally important you know when to take them to the animal hospital.
Occasions when your pet might need to go to the animal hospital include:
- Accidents: If your pet has been run over by a car or other vehicle, a visit to the animal hospital is immediately in order, even if the pet appears fine as internal injures might be present.
- Poisoning: If you think that your pet has been poisoned, take him or her to vet ASAP. Signs of poisoning including diarrhea, vomiting, seizures, loss of appetite, and many others.
- Severe Vomiting: If your cat or dog has vomited, that isn’t a cause for concern. However, when the vomiting is continuing, the animal will not eat or drink and is acting out of their normal behavior a trip to the animal hospital to find out what is going on is in order.
- Bleeding: If you notice excessive bleeding in your pet, it is time to phone the vet, especially if the pet is vomiting the blood.
